HEROISM IN LIBYA

By William Markiewicz

How come this outburst of complete bravery, never before seen? It shows the masses more attached to the country than to their own lives. They didn’t know this about themselves until internet linked them. Previously, in “Traditions Blown Away” (current issue), I asked myself about the origin of this knowledge. I was stuck in memories of science fiction about “particles of informatons”, futuristic injections of mastery or PhDs replacing learning. Freud himself predicted that in the future pharmacists would replace psychiatrists.

In the present, internet shows more power of connection than the most charismatic leader or ideology. Internet provides a new level of communication and people discover that they are not alone giving them courage at the global level. Written words of solidarity are more exciting and efficient than marching in rank.
